Galway City Museum

Opened in 2006, this free museum is one of the most popular tourist destinations when visiting the tribe county with over 200,000 visitors per year.

Located on the banks of River Corrib in Galway City, visitors are invited to discover the history and heritage of Galway City and its importance within Ireland. Explore 3 floors of exciting exhibitions covering the archaeology, history and sea science of Galway.

The Museum has received TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for five years running and the 2016 Expert’s Choice award, ranking it among the ‘highest-rated attractions in Galway’.

Galway City Museum is a collectors paradise for items of cultural heritage relating to the city of Galway and its wonderful people. There are over 1000 objects in the current collection, most of which have been donated and contributed by the people of Galway over the past 40 years. Part of the collection is on display and those objects not on display make up the museum’s reserve collection and are kept in secure storage.
